Happy Valentine’s Day, friends!! I hope you have a fabulous day full of kisses and hugs and surrounded by the people you love. I know for some of you this can be a difficult day, especially if you don’t have a significant other. I had some not-so-happy Valentine’s Days myself, years ago when I used to wonder if romantic love was ever going to knock on my door; if I was ever going to find my soul mate, a life-partner who would love, cherish, and adore me. If that’s you right now, don’t worry; it’s waiting for you. You are almost there, but there might be a couple of frogs you might have to kiss and some life lessons to learn first.
Today I’ll give you a little sneak peek into my personal life so you can see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. No matter what situation you’re in, you can find your silver lining.
Twelve years ago, I was a fifteen-year-old girl with a vision and expectations in a new country that provided endless opportunities, which my own country didn’t offer. I came here with my family, one pair of jeans, and countless dreams; and that was all. At the beginning, it was really difficult; the language, the culture shock, and the loneliness were not easy.
Little by little, I started making friends and started a relationship and, all of a sudden, everything was great again. But then something happened: at seventeen years old, I found out I was pregnant. To make a long story short, things didn’t work out between me and the dad. We were both too young, and so I became a single mom at seventeen years old. I know some of you might think it’s a bit scandalous and might even judge me for it but, to be honest, I feel so proud to have my son, Jordan, who is a lot like me and also so different in so many ways. I was able to finish high school, go to college, finish college, and be a mother all at the same time. I’m not saying it wasn’t a challenge, and I encourage young girls who read my blog to be careful and to wait, but if this happens to you or some challenge or obstacle gets in your way, it’s OK; you are strong. If I did it, you can do it, too. So, on this rollercoaster life of mine, when I least expected it, I met the most wonderful man on this earth with the best values who wants to help raise our Jordan into a great person. I drive him insane all the time, but I love him and he loves me unconditionally. He treats me like every girl deserves to be treated.
So, yes, what can I tell you? I’m very proud of my little family and that’s why I decided to share some of my favorite photos from our engagement photo session from 3 years ago to celebrate Valentine’s Day here on my virtual home.
I hope this post brings you a little bit of hope and courage to keep going. Also, remember that this day doesn’t have to be romantic. I think friendships with your girlfriends or your family can be celebrated on Valentine’s Day, too.
